Life is busy and occasionally we get tied up and may have to send some-one else to pick up our children from school or soccer practice.  Your child may not know the person and this can be a problem.

Choose a special family word that only you, your spouse, the children, and maybe their teacher knows.  Train your children to ask any stranger who says that they have come to fetch them on your behalf to ask for the special word.  Train them that if the stranger doesn’t know the word to make as much fuss and noise as they can and run straight back into their classroom, or to another adult for help.

Doing this will give you peace of mind and make your children feel confident and safe.  Little things like this can prevent a tragedy from happening.
