THE Territory Government will give Alice Springs council more than $1 million to expand the town's CCTV surveillance network.

The money will pay for more cameras to be installed in the city centre.

The Government will also provide $200,000 a year to monitor the network.

Chief Minister Paul Henderson was joined by Alice Mayor Damien Ryan in making the announcement, following a Cabinet meeting in the town yesterday.

Mr Henderson said the first stage of the CCTV network was helping to cut anti-social behaviour around the Todd Street Mall and that the extra cameras would provide a more complete coverage of the area.
